Douglass S. Mead papers. [manuscript]. 1940-1949.

Educator and writer. English Literature professor at Pennsylvania State University, 1920-1960. Helped to initiate the graduate program in English and established Sigma Tau Delta, English scholastic honorary fraternity. Editor of "Great English and American Essays," and of an essay section "Good Reading" in the New American Library from 1954-1959. The collection consists of typed manuscripts, including a number of papers delivered at meetings of the State College Literary Club. The second series contains Dr. Mead's publications which appeared in "The News Letter of the College English Association," "School and Society," and "The Explicator." In several cases both the typed manuscript and the published periodical are included.
